About the Chief
Eddy LeCompte was born in Arnaudville to Wilbert (Boy) LeCompte and Paulita (Pyo) Lalonde LeCompte on September 10, 1948. Many of his family still reside here in Arnaudville. "Doc" Broussard was married to his Nanan, Jessie Lalonde Broussard, who is his mother's sister. Remi Kidder was an uncle, once married to his mother's sister, Leola. On his father's side, Sandra LaPorte is a first cousin; her mother, Bertha (Blue) LeCompte, was his dad's sister.
Many other cousins are residing in Arnaudville at this time. He attended the old Arnaudville High School, and still maintains friendships that were established there. His father seized an opportunity to lift his family out of poverty, and moved the family to New Orleans when Eddy was 10. But, the family stayed connected to Arnaudville because of the dozens of family still here. Ed’s parents are buried in the Arnaudville cemetery, as are many of their relatives.
After Hurricane Katrina, the Chief’s mother and mentally challenged brother moved back to Arnaudville from St. Bernard Parish after losing everything -- her house, her neighborhood, and her community. Due to the stress of the storm and her losses, she passed away several months later. His wife, Ginger and young son, James evacuated to Lafayette where his daughter was attending ULL. They made the decision to make this a permanent move , and eventually made the move to Arnaudville in 2007 to assume the responsibility of taking care of Ed’s brother and establishing a permanent home for the family.
Ed’s wife, Ginger is the Executive Director/CEO of the St. Landry-Evangeline United Way, as well as serving as a commissioner on the St. Landry Tourist Commission and is a former board member of the Acadiana Regional Coalition on Homelessness and Housing. She serves on the boards of St. Landry Parish Community Action Agency and St. Landry Parish Headstart Policy Council. She has also served on the board of the Arnaudville Area Chamber of Commerce and the St. Landry Chamber of Commerce. The LeCompte’s daughter, Emily is married to Jeremy Young. She is a special ed teacher in Lafayette Parish, and they are the proud parents of twins - a girl and a boy. The LeCompte's son, James attended The Magnet Academy of Cultural Arts (MACA) in Opelousas, and is currently employed with Completeful of Lafayette, a drop shipping fulfillment service. as an IT Specialist.
After virtually commuting from Arnaudville to Harvey since Katrina, the Chief retired from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in October, 2013. He joined the family in Arnaudville, where he fully embraces the country life, the community's various events, activities and culture. The LeCompte’s are members of St. Francis Regis Church, where Ed was baptized and made his first communion.
